ScooterRank Privacy Policy

Effective date: 10.12.2026

This Privacy Policy explains how SCOOTERRANK ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares personal data when you use the ScooterRank mobile app (the "App"). We are the data controller for this processing. We are based in Romania (EU) and process personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

If you have any questions or want to exercise your rights, contact us at watttheride@gmail.com.

1. Data we collect

Account and profile

  • When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account email, your name, and your Google profile photo.
  • When you sign in with Discord, we receive your Discord email, your username, and your Discord avatar.
  • Your chosen display name (a public handle) and your country or region.
  • An optional profile photo (your Google or Discord photo, or one you upload).

Ride and activity data

  • When you record a ride, we collect GPS location data (your route), together with distance, speed, altitude, duration, timestamps, and the scooter you selected.
  • During recording we also collect device motion and environmental sensor data (accelerometer, gyroscope, and barometric pressure) alongside GPS. We use this to validate rides (to keep leaderboards fair) and to produce ride analytics.
  • GPS accuracy measurements, which we use to validate rides.
  • Optionally, basic weather at the start of a ride (temperature and conditions), which you may choose to record with the ride.
  • The detailed sensor recording of a ride is processed on our servers and then deleted; we keep only derived summaries: your ride statistics, a reduced route (see below), ride validation data, per-ride analytics (a down-sampled speed-and-altitude profile over time, which contains no location), and the map coverage described under "Territory".
  • Routes are stored in a reduced form: the precise start and end of each route are trimmed, and the path is simplified before storage.

Territory data

  • When you record a ride, we derive the set of coarse map cells (hexagons roughly 0.1 kmยฒ) your route passed through, to build your personal "territory" map inside the App. We store these cells, not a precise track.
  • Your territory map is private by default and shown only to you. If you turn on "Share my territory", your coverage contributes, anonymously and in aggregate, to a community heat map shown to other riders. A cell appears on that map only when at least three different riders have covered it, so your individual coverage is never identifiable, and no names are shown. You can turn sharing off at any time.

Social data

  • The riders you follow and who follow you, and your privacy settings (public profile, Share Map, Friends Feed, Share Territory).

Subscription data

  • If you buy a Pro subscription, we receive a purchase token and your subscription status from Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your card or payment details; Google processes the payment.

Technical data

  • Device model and operating system, app version, and a device token used to deliver push notifications (via Firebase Cloud Messaging).
  • Sign-in metadata (such as IP address and device information) kept for a limited period to prevent abuse.

2. How we use your data, and our legal basis

  • To provide the App (recording rides, leaderboards, profiles, the activity feed, following other riders, and your territory map): performance of our contract with you.
  • To record and display your rides using location and sensor data: performance of our contract (see Section 3).
  • To manage Pro subscriptions and verify your entitlement: performance of our contract.
  • To validate rides and keep leaderboards and territory fair (anti-cheat): our legitimate interest in a fair, trustworthy service.
  • To secure, maintain, and improve the App and prevent abuse: our legitimate interest.
  • To send push notifications about activity relevant to you: our legitimate interest; you can turn notifications off in your device settings.

3. Location and sensor data

Location is central to the App and is handled with care.

  • We collect precise location, and the device motion/environmental sensors above, only while you are actively recording a ride, through a foreground service that you start.
  • We use them to measure and display your ride, to validate it, and, if you choose, to show your route or contribute to the community map.
  • Your route is stored in the reduced form described above (start and end trimmed, path simplified). The detailed sensor recording is deleted after processing.
  • Route and territory sharing are off by default. Your route is shown to another rider only if you and that rider follow each other and you have turned on Share Map. Your ride summaries may appear to riders you mutually follow if you keep Friends Feed on. Your territory contributes to the anonymized community map only if you turn on Share Territory. All of these settings are under your control.
  • You can decline or revoke the location permission at any time in your device settings. Ride recording does not work without it.

4. How your data is shared

With other riders

  • Your display name and totals appear on leaderboards (including the territory leaderboard, which ranks riders by number of cells claimed, a number only, never a map of where you ride).
  • Your profile is visible to other riders only if you make it public.
  • Your rides appear in the feeds of riders who mutually follow you only if Friends Feed is on, and your route is included only if Share Map is on.
  • Your territory contributes to the anonymized, aggregated community heat map only if Share Territory is on, and only where at least three riders overlap, so no individual's coverage is identifiable.

With service providers

  • Google (Google Sign-In, Google Play Billing, and Firebase Cloud Messaging) processes account, payment, and notification data as part of providing those services.
  • Discord processes your sign-in if you choose to sign in with Discord.
  • Map tiles are provided by the OpenStreetMap Foundation. When a map is displayed, tile requests are sent to OpenStreetMap servers.
  • Our hosting and infrastructure provider, OVH, stores data on our behalf.

Affiliate links

  • The App may show partner deals, coupons, or product suggestions (for example maintenance parts) that link to third-party websites such as AliExpress or our own comparison site. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them.

We do not sell your personal data.

5. Data retention

  • Individual rides are retained for up to 180 days and are then automatically and permanently deleted, on a rolling basis.
  • Free accounts can view their most recent 14 days of rides; Pro accounts can view up to 180 days. Rides outside your visible window are not deleted early: they become visible again if you upgrade, within the 180-day limit.
  • Per-ride analytics are deleted together with the ride they belong to.
  • Aggregate statistics for your account (such as lifetime distance and personal bests) are retained for the life of your account, independently of the 180-day ride limit.
  • Your territory coverage (the set of map cells you have claimed) is retained for the life of your account, so your map does not shrink as old rides are deleted. It is removed when you delete your account.
  • We keep your account and profile data until you delete your account. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data, except where we must keep limited records (for example, transaction records) to meet legal obligations.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at watttheride@gmail.com. You can also delete your account, and all associated personal data, from within the App (Settings) or at scooterrank.com/delete-account.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Romania this is the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP).

7. Data security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including access controls and encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children

The App is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. International transfers

Some of our service providers (such as Google) may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and, where appropriate, notify you in the App.
