How to read this atlas

Status is the national position for privately owned devices; cities, states and provinces often add their own rules. For the United States, Canada and Australia, open the country to see each state, province or territory.

Verification is shown per vehicle type: Based on published secondary sources means at least one value comes from a published source we read (guides, news, government summaries; not the law text itself), and the block is marked "(some details unconfirmed)" when any shown value is unconfirmed; Map label only means only the status label on RecordingLaw's world map was read; Not researched means no source was checked yet. Values not taken from a source we read are never shown ("Not confirmed"); values whose source was not recorded carry an "unconfirmed" marker.

Country entries are derived in part from RecordingLaw's e-scooter law guides; US state entries from ERideHero's state law maps (verified February 2026). Each page lists its sources and whether they were opened.
