The ENGWE T14’s drivetrain uses a conventional bicycle chain to transmit power from the motor and pedals to the rear wheel. In practical terms, that means riders benefit from a very direct, efficient transfer of torque—chain drives typically achieve around 96–98 percent efficiency under load. The T14’s chain pairs with a multi-speed derailleur (commonly 7 or 8 gears), giving you a gear-range suitable for moderate hills and flat-terrain acceleration. Because chains fit standard sprocket tooth counts (often 14–28T on e-bikes), replacement parts are widely available and inexpensive.

Compared with belt-drive systems or shaft drives, a chain system does require a bit more regular upkeep—most riders should clean and lubricate the chain every 150–250 miles to avoid premature wear. However, chains can last 2,000–3,000 miles before needing replacement, and when they do wear out, parts are easy to source from local bike shops. Belt drives by contrast may go 5,000 miles without service but cost two to three times more to install and replace.
