Unlike a single-speed hub motor or sealed internal-gear hub, a derailleur setup typically offers between seven and twelve discrete gears, letting riders fine-tune their pedaling cadence and motor assist to match terrain. On flats you can stay in a higher gear for efficient cruising, while on climbs you drop into a lower ratio to keep pedal effort manageable—even with the X26’s motor assistance capped around 500 watts.

Compared with many entry-level e-bikes that rely on a one-to-one gear ratio (single-speed) or a modest three- to eight-speed internal hub, the X26’s derailleur system delivers up to 300 percent more total gear range. That greater span means more leverage when climbing hills and better resistance-to-speed tuning on descents or fast stretches. Maintenance is more hands-on—cleaning, indexing, and occasional cable adjustment—but replacement parts (chains, cassettes, jockey wheels) are widely available and cost-effective.

This derailleur arrangement matters most for riders tackling varied terrain, commuters facing mixed urban grades, or weekend tourers who carry gear.
