⚡ Throttle

The ENGWE EP-2 Boost does not include a throttle—there’s no twist-grip or thumb lever to power the bike independently of pedaling. All of its 750 W peak motor output and 75 Nm of torque are delivered through a five-level torque-sensor pedal-assist system, which propels you up to around 28 mph as you pedal. By omitting the throttle hardware, the EP-2 Boost remains slightly lighter and mechanically simpler, and it ensures that every bit of motor support is driven by your own effort.

In contrast, many fat-tire e-bikes in a similar price range offer throttles capable of carrying you at 20–25 mph without any pedaling. Those throttles can be handy for quick starts or for riders who prefer minimal exertion, but they add weight (often 1–2 lbs), complexity, and in some jurisdictions can bump the bike into a different regulatory class. The EP-2 Boost’s purely pedal-assist approach delivers smoother, more proportional power, giving you a more natural cycling experience while still letting you climb hills and sustain higher speeds with less sweat.

Whether the no-throttle setup matters to you depends on your priorities. If you want the broadest legal riding options—especially in places where throttle-only e-bikes may require special licenses—or if you’re looking to maximize the exercise component of each ride, the EP-2 Boost’s design is a strong fit. On the other hand, if you often need a power-only kick-start for errands or you simply prefer the option to ride hands-off, you might lean toward a model with a throttle. For riders prioritizing simplicity, lightness, and a bike-like feel, the EP-2 Boost’s pedal-assist–only system delivers exactly that.
