📐 Frame Style

The Engwe ENGWE L20 uses a step-through frame, which means the top tube is set much lower than on a traditional “step-over” design. Instead of swinging your leg over a bar that sits around 60 cm off the ground, you only have to clear roughly 35–40 cm of frame height. That lower standover makes mounting and dismounting nearly effortless, especially at stoplights or when setting a foot down on uneven terrain.

By comparison, most standard electric bikes—and even many folding models—feature standover heights in the 55–60 cm range. Dropping that by about 20–25 cm on the L20 cuts the required leg lift almost in half, so riders don’t have to raise their foot as high or shift weight so dramatically. This difference translates into smoother, more confident stops and starts, and less risk of losing balance when hopping on or off.

A step-through layout really shines for riders who value ease and comfort. Shorter cyclists (around 150–165 cm tall), older adults, people with limited hip or knee mobility, or anyone commuting in skirts, dresses or business attire will appreciate not having to swing a leg over a high tube. It’s also a big plus for urban commuters who stop frequently—carrying a backpack or briefcase—and want to get on and off quickly without fuss.
