The ENGWE N1 Air comes with a rigid front fork, which means there is no suspension travel to absorb bumps or shocks. In numerical terms, suspension forks typically offer anywhere from 50 mm to 100 mm of travel, whereas a rigid fork has 0 mm of travel. This design choice reduces overall weight by roughly 1 – 2 kg compared with similarly priced e-bikes equipped with entry-level suspension, making the N1 Air easier to lift, transport, and maintain.

Compared to many commuter and hybrid e-bikes that include front suspension forks weighing between 3 – 5 lb, the rigid fork on the N1 Air not only trims weight but also delivers a more direct steering feel and higher pedaling efficiency. Without the slight energy loss that suspension compression can introduce, riders can notice improved power transfer, especially when climbing or accelerating from a stop. On smooth roads, paved bike paths, and urban environments, the absence of front suspension is often unnoticeable in terms of comfort.

This fork setup matters most for urban commuters and touring riders who prioritize low maintenance, efficiency, and bike-packing simplicity over off-road performance. If you plan to stick to asphalt, boardwalks, or light gravel trails at moderate speeds, the rigid front end delivers a snappier ride and fewer mechanical parts to service. Riders who frequently tackle rough singletrack, rocky trails, or high-speed descents, however, may prefer models with 50 – 100 mm of suspension travel to reduce rider fatigue and improve traction.
