Gotrax Apex carries an IPX4 rating for water resistance, which means its key electrical components are protected against splashing water from any direction. In practical terms, you can ride through light rain showers, puddle splashes, or damp streets without worrying that occasional drips will short-circuit the system. However, IPX4 does not guard against heavy downpours, jet sprays, or submersion, so it’s best to avoid riding in torrential rain or through standing water deeper than a few centimeters.

For everyday commuters who face occasional mist or scattered showers, the IPX4 rating offers peace of mind. You won’t need to constantly stow the scooter at the first sign of a gray sky, provided you keep your trips to routes that don’t involve long stretches of heavy rain or flood zones. It also means you don’t have to wrap the deck in extra plastic tarps or stop frequently to dry off electronics.

On the other hand, riders in regions known for prolonged, intense rainstorms or those who regularly cross waterways should be aware of the limits. IPX4 doesn’t guarantee performance in hairline cracks under pressure or during deep water crossings. If you often face extreme wet-weather conditions, you may want to weigh more robust protection or aftermarket covers to keep your Apex running smoothly.
